If we are a competing team, how much of our accommodation is covered by CIG?

CIG will pay for three rooms for your team beginning the night before your scheduled night of play. So, if your team plays on Thursday, you would have three hotel rooms as of Wednesday night, through Saturday night. Ottawa teams do not get hotel rooms.

Can we book extra rooms, or extra nights and pay for them?

Yes, this is usually not a problem. The CIG rate per room per night is $86 plus HST (13%).

What hotel are we staying in?

The Extended Stay Canada (141 Cooper Street, Ottawa, ON K2P 0E8), or if we need overflow rooms, the Embassy Hotel, which is right next to the Extended Stay.

How do I book rooms?

We will provide you with a hotel booking form. In order to receive our CIG rate, you need to book through us.

How many people per room?

The hotel prefers that no more than 5 people stay in a room. However, sometimes 6 can be accommodated (particularly if they are a quiet and tidy six)

Is there a kitchenette?

Yes, each room has a kitchenette.

How far is the National Arts Centre from the hotel?

The NAC is a little less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

Where are the venues for the workshops?

  • The National Arts Centre – 53 Elgin St
  • The Extended Stay Hotel – 141 Cooper St
  • The University of Ottawa Theatre Bldg – 135 Seraphin- Marion

All workshop venues are a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel (except for the hotel itself, of course;)

Do competing teams need to pay for workshops?

No. Workshops are included in festival registration

What is included in the Festival?

Our workshops vary from year to year and are confirmed closer to the week of Nationals. Students get to take 2 workshops, participate in forums, and attend discussion panels. Tickets to each night of play are included in the cost of Festival Registration.

When can I register for workshops?

The workshop schedule and registration will be available closer to Nationals. Information will be sent to you when it is ready to go. It will be an online registration form.

How much is Festival Registration?

$99 if you live in Ontario, $79 if you are travelling from outside Ontario. The fee is waived for competing teams.

If I’m a coach or chaperone, do I need to pay the registration fee?

No, you do not.

If I’m a coach, can I watch the workshops?

You need to get the permission of the instructor to watch the workshops — you can check in at the start of the workshop to see if it is okay. In many cases it will be, but sometimes workshops don’t work as well with an audience.

Questions about the festival can be directed to our Festival Co-ordinator, Owen Schellenberger (

What is Toast and Jam? Will there be toast and jam?

Toast and jam is what we call our daily morning improv warm up and hang out in the hotel. There won’t be actual toasted bread and jam, but the hotel does have a continental breakfast.

Are there any restaurants close to the hotel?

Yes – many! There are fast food and sit-down options close to the hotel and on the way to the National Arts Centre. Dunn’s is popular for its inexpensive and filling greasy spoon breakfast.

There is a Sobeys express grocery store a 5 minute walk from the hotel, and a larger Hartman’s Independent Grocer 10 minutes away.

Will someone meet us at the airport/train?

Teams are responsible for getting themselves to and from the airport or train station. You will be greeted in the lobby at the hotel.

I am part of a competing team. Will there be a space we can use to rehearse?

Yes. After you arrive, you will be able to book a room to rehearse in at least once.
