Canadian Improv Games Teacher Conference

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The Canadian Improv Games Teacher Conference (CIGTC) takes place in conjunction with the Canadian Improv Games National Festival and Tournament, a national theatre event that welcomes over 300 students and teachers to Ottawa each year for workshops and performance opportunities.  The event runs May 11-14, 2020 (with an optional, but highly recommended, meet & greet and performance event on May 10th) and is open to all teachers across Canada.

Delegates attending the CIGTC can expect to receive over 15 hours of Professional Development over 4 days in Ottawa through attending workshops and performances.  Teachers will have the opportunity to watch games and activities be introduced to students as well as participate with their peers using these games and activities to strengthen their teaching practice.

This exciting and hands-on conference will give drama and english language arts teachers lots of games, activities and strategies for improving student’s speaking and listening skills as well as help get teachers comfortable introducing improvisational theatre into their professional practice.  Teachers can expect to work with veteran improvisors, coaches and theatrical performers to learn how to bring improv into their classroom. Improvisational theatre is a great cross-curricular teaching methodology in all subjects that engages students and activates their learning in meaningful ways.
