Improvcamp is a week-long summer camp held at Camp Fircom (Gambier Island, BC) where young improvisers receive comprehensive instruction in improvisational theatre by professionals from all over North America. Campers will be organized into ensembles that will travel from workshop to workshop, gaining skills and learning about their craft. There are performances each night, and many summer camp favourites like field games, canoeing and campfires!

As camp counsellors, first aider, or trainers, you will make friends for life, eat delicious food, and make a huge difference in the lives of young people.
Our team is made up of mature, creative, and nurturing individuals that are capable of providing each camper with a safe, supportive, and memorable camp experience. Lots of energy, a positive attitude, and love are a must! It’s a short week but we cram it full of action. We focus on creating communities of belonging by connecting with each other through improv and provide an environment support.
Requirements for all applicants:
-Arrive in Vancouver no later than 4 pm August 14th
-Responsible for their own travel
-Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
-Provide a Vulnerable Sector Check
We are seeking a Head Chef who will run the industrial kitchen at Improvcamp for the week of August 14th-21st. Improvcamp is a summer camp for teens who love improv comedy. The camp is situated at Camp Fircom on Gambier Island, a 30 minute boat ride from Horseshoe bay. Transportation from Horseshoe Bay is provided by the camp as is accommodation and food once on the island.
Train and manage kitchen personnel and supervise/coordinate all related culinary activities
Create menu for the camp (approx 70-120 people), estimate food consumption and purchase food and arrange deliveries with the boat company
Ensure proper equipment operation/maintenance and ensure proper safety and sanitation in kitchen
Help with selection of other kitchen staff
Requires 2-3 years of experience in a related position
Requires advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the food profession
Requires experiential knowledge of management of people and/or problems
Food Safe Certification
Ability to obtain a vulnerable sectors check (criminal record check)
Vaccination requirement: – all individuals working on site are required to be double vaccinated against COVID-19.

– Must arrive in the kitchen on time and follow the daily schedule, set by the head chef
– Must strictly Follow safe food practices
– Working quickly and efficiently to complete tasks within a set amount of time
– Work safely when around hot/heavy/sharp hazards
– Must be able to communicate efficiently with a team to get jobs done
– Must have worked in an industrial kitchen, professional or volunteer
– Must be 19 years of age
– Must have/be willing to obtain a vulnerable sector check
– Must be double vaccinated against COVID-19
– Food safe handling certified
– Worked with youth in a camp/volunteer setting
– Have been to improv camp before as a volunteer/staff
Regardless of how your team is meeting, we’ll Zoom/FaceTime/Google Meets into your space and run a 1-hour workshop for up to 10 participants. If you and your team are meeting entirely virtually – we can accommodate that too!
You will be sent a lesson plan ahead of time to help more smoothly run the workshop.
